China, Days 7 and 8

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I put up a few new pics, but nothing really interesting has happened. This afternoon I get to give a presentation. Tomorrow, I’m going to do some shopping. Friday, I imagine there will be drinking…

Actually, the real reason i didn’t post monday and tuesday was because I was feeling incredibly crappy most of the day monday and thus was very tired Tuesday (I actually fell asleep around 4-5am). Lots of cramping and … uh, let’s just call it related symptions. I was also jittery and borderline freaky monday because I had one (one!) cup of (very bad) (but very very strong) cup of coffee. Huh. Looks like you can kick the coffee habit with no shakes or headaches if you drink lots of chinese tea for a week. I was really REALLY jittery. It was a very strange feeling, because I normally drink 3 cups of coffee a day when I’m at the home office.

China, Day 6

Didn’t do much this weekend. Spent yesterday mostly inside hacking on php (yeah yeah) for WordPress. Not sure why, really, except I want to tinker under the hood of the new toy. Today, did some laundry, went for a long walk (several hours) all over Shen Zhen, ate dinner at a hole in the wall, grabbed a taxi home. I covered enough distance that it was more than 12.5 Yuan to get home. Not bad. No idea where I was, but the sun was shining and I got to see the parts of the city that aren’t scrubbed for public consumption.

Tomorrow, back to work.

How can you pass up a comparison between Bush privatizing social security and Catch 22?

Apropos of nothing

How gay are the (( )) in my blog name? I like them, but I don’t really know why.

And how the hell do you do a poll in wordpress?

China, Day 4

Jesus fucking christ, I’m in a completely country where 99% of the population doesn’t speak my language, you can’t find a goddamn cup of coffee, and I’m completely dependant on strangers to get something as simple as a micro-USB cable or CF reader to get the pictures off my camera.

None of that is bothering me right now. Except the coffee.

China, Day 3

Day 3 rapidly draws to a close. Time to go get some dinner. Lunch was some great dim sum (and for about $6 for the 3 of us to eat). I could get used to that. Though, I had a hard time keeping the cow intestine down. Less of that, I think. At least now I know what that stuff is.

Hopefully I can buy a micro-usb cable somewhere and pull out some pictures later on tonight.

China, Day 2

Food good. And interesting.

Alcohol makes a fabulous cure for jet lag.

I need to learn spoken Chinese, real fast. Any suggestions for resources on basic grammar and vocabulary would be awesome.

Drilling holes in soft plastic

<yohan> For future reference:

<yohan> the right tool for the job, when the job is drilling a hole in
soft plastic, is a Forstner bit.

<yohan> Someone with a blog should put that up, because Google sure didn’t give me that answer.
